OK, so there is a news article out today about something called Endocannabinoids. Its a chemical our brains make that binds to the same sites as the active ingredient in marijuana. The article discusses how junk food craving and high endocannabinoids coincide. For those having not enough sleep, the endocannabinoids are higher, and those with 8+ hrs of sleep a night is it lower. When it is lower, the "eat carbs/junk food" switch is off, which can help one lose weight. (cut grain-y carbs and your blood sugar will remain more moderate throughout the day leading to less bodyfat stored and VIOLA!....weight loss and lower bodyfat.
What the article DOESNT DISCUSS is how the "pleasure center" reward part of the brain (serotonin and dopamine) So, not enough sleep triggers the increase of these Endocannabinoids and then eating the simple/grain based carbs significantly increases glucose levels which stimulates the production of serotonin and dopamine, which can the "addictive" side of simple carbs/sugar intake.
GET SOME GOOD SLEEP! Make it a priority! Get your body healthy...and happy!!
